Earnings and data will continue to roll in Wednesday, but the key event of the day may well be remarks from the chief of the U.S. central bank. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is set to deliver a speech on monetary policy before the Committee on Financial Services at the House of Representatives, and his comments could have a significant influence on the direction of the market and on traders' perception about the likelihood of more near-term rate cuts. Bernanke will begin speaking at 10 a.m. EST. Also, Fed Governor Fred Mishkin will discuss the importance of financial literacy at a conference in Washington. Meanwhile, among earnings, Nortel NT, Toll Brothers TOL and Salesforce.com CRM are expected to report.
