Continental, AMR Discussed Deal: Report

02/15/08 - 05:22 PM EST

TSC Staff

Continental Airlines CAL and AMR AMR, the parent of American Airlines, held discussions about combining the two carriers, according to a published report.

The Wall Street Journal said Friday that Continental, which has had talks with UAL's UAUA United Airlines, also had conversations with American, the world's biggest airline.

Merger speculation has been heating up in recent weeks, with most scenarios having Delta Air Lines DAL joining with Northwest Airlines NWA.

Many observers believe that if that deal occurs, others will follow. A Continental-UAL tie-up has been discussed by analysts as another possible merger.
