The Republican race remains really exciting. I have seen reasonable arguments made that four different candidates could win the nomination. The big question is, who will have early momentum? Is Iowa more important than New Hampshire, and what about South Carolina? I can't recall a time when there was so much doubt about a Republican nominee.

Jim Geraghty has Mitt Romney's response to the attacks by newspapers in New Hampshire. Several of the papers have come out and given an anti-endorsement of Romney. One writer challenged people to find one position on which Romney hasn't flip-flopped. Patrick Ruffini makes a case for Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) to be the frontrunner after winning the primary in New Hampshire. The turmoil on the Republican side of the ticket amazes me. Who will have the momentum to win? Think Progress wonders about the weird assertion made in a new article discussing President Bush's veto of stem-cell legislation. Did the president base his decision on a passage from Brave New World? Captain Ed looks at the shifting immigration stances of McCain and Huckabee. Both had softer positions in government than they do now on the campaign trail.Democrats
Chris Bowers at openleft.com blogs on another media study showing that the media have been very negative on Sen. Hillary Clinton (D., N.Y.) and positive on Sen. Barack Obama (D., Ill.) and John Edwards. Bowers offers a few theories. I would guess that the media thrive on controversy, and attacking the leader provides it.Edwards could surprise in the Democratic vote, and Ron Paul could pull into the GOP's top three.
