Sneak Preview: When to Hold On

You must guard against selling a stock that you own for reasons independent of a market swing. Use the declines to build positions in stocks that don't depend on market momentum; don't be shaken out of your good positions.

Inside Cramer's New Book: 'Stay Mad for Life'

Throughout my investing for Action Alerts PLUS I have seen this pattern: oil stocks sold because of market volatility that had nothing to do with the increasing price of oil; farm stocks sold even though the farm cycle is separate from the economic cycle; and mineral stocks dumped even though they are more levered to China than to the United States. If you have a good long-term thesis that is independent of the economic cycle, do not let yourself be faked out of what could be some terrific long-term gains.
