Scattered news nudged a few biotechs on a fairly static day for health stocks Friday.
Endo Pharmaceuticals(ENDP Quote) said late Thursday that the Food and Drug Administration requested an extension on the review date of its new-drug application for the short-term indication of its menstrual migraine drug Frova. The agency already requested an extension earlier this year, pushing the date back from May 19 to Aug. 19. Endo and partner Vernalis said that the FDA hasn't asked them for more information or trial data, and until they receive further information from the agency, they intend to continue their original commercial plan for the drug. Investors didn't seem concerned Friday as shares traded up 47 cents, or 1.5%, to $31.29. The company is a component of the Nasdaq biotechnology index, which was up 11.72, or 1.5%, at 796.18. Anesiva(ANSV Quote) climbed Friday after announcing it received FDA approval of Zingo, a needle-pain reducer for children. Shares climbed 42 cents, or 8.2%, to $5.61. Ventana Medical Systems(VMSI Quote) said Friday that the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Massachusetts ruled that Ventana isn't liable for antitrust claims that were brought on by CytoLogix. The company is liable for about $10.8 million in patent infringement damages related to a 2003 decision that found Ventana's Benchmark instrument infringed on two CytoLogix patents. Shares rose $1.15, or 1.5%, to $79.65.- Loading Comments...
