Nokia (NOK - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr) offered to replace 46 million cell phone batteries after some overheated during charging. The Espoo, Finland-based handset maker said the problems are linked to the Nokia-branded BL-5C battery manufactured by Matsushita Battery of Japan between December 2005 and November 2006. Batteries could potentially experience overheating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge, Nokia said. The company said there have been 100 incidents reported but no serious injuries or property damage. "This advisory applies only to the 46 million batteries manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006," Nokia said, explaining that it has had some 300 million similar batteries made. The news comes a year after Dell (DELL - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr) and other manufacturers of notebook PCs had to recall some laptops because of overheating batteries.
