In the absence of any economic data Monday, Treasury prices finished with losses. The 10-year note was down 11/32 in price, yielding 4.73%, and the 30-year bond was off by 19/32, yielding 4.90%.
Overseas, markets were mostly lower. Tokyo's Nikkei was off 0.4%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng slid 2.7% overnight. London's FTSE was 0.6% lower, while Frankfurt's DAX tacked on 0.1%. There were several upgrades early Monday. Bear Stearns upgraded video-game makers Electronic Arts (ERTS Quote - Cramer on ERTS - Stock Picks) and Take-Two (TTWO Quote - Cramer on TTWO - Stock Picks) to outperform and peer perform, respectively. EA climbed 5.6% to $52.84, while Take-Two slid 4% to close at $13.59. Elsewhere, Citigroup upgraded women's apparel retailer Ann Taylor (ANN Quote - Cramer on ANN - Stock Picks) to hold from sell. After spending much of the day in negative territory, the stock was higher by 27 cents, or 0.9%, to $29.47.
