The BlackBerry maker announced its quarterly profit grew 73% and boosted its second-quarter guidance. Shares closed up $34.40 to $199.99. 52-Week Highs: Shares of Research In Motion also hit a 52-week high Friday. Rising on Unusual Volume: Research In Motion was trading at unusually heavy volume, at 420% above its three-month average. Biggest % Losers: MMC Energy(MMCE Quote) sunk 19% Friday, after the company announced a public offering of 9.1 million shares at $5.50 apiece, a 19% discount to Thursday's close. The New York-based firm was down $1.31 to $5.49. 52-Week Lows: American Home Mortgage Investment(AHM Quote) fell 13% to a 52-week low, after the company said "substantial charges for credit-related expenses" will cause a second-quarter loss. The mortgage investment company also withdrew its prior 2007 earnings outlook of $3.25 to $3.75. Shares tumbled $2.53 to $18.38. Latest Activist Situations: Mercury Real Estate Advisors disclosed a 9.4% stake in Sonesta International Hotels(SNSTA Quote). The firm also disclosed a letter to Sonesta, applauding the company's move to hire Goldman Sachs to explore strategic options. Shares closed up Friday $1.06, or 3.5%, to $31.50.Forum of the Day
