Stockpickr Lists: Freeport McMoRan

52-Week Highs: Freeport-McMoRan(FCX Quote) rose to a 52-week high Wednesday, after a Goldman Sachs analyst said he expects industrial metal prices to remain high. The analyst added Freeport is his favorite metal play, since the company specializes in copper, noting its strong financials. Shares gained $3.08, or 3.5%, closing at $82.05.

Biggest % Gainers: Vendingdata(VNX Quote) surged 17% after it announced a deal that gave Elixir Group 75% ownership. The deal will allow the gaming equipment supplier to add more than 3,000 slot machines throughout Asia. Shares traded up 54 cents Wednesday, finishing the day at $3.79.

52-Week Lows: United Community Banks(UCBI Quote) dropped 6% Wednesday, after the company warned of possible mortgage losses due to a troubled real estate development in North Carolina. SunTrust also downgraded the stock to neutral from buy. Shares dropped $1.69, landing at a 52-week low of $27.50.

Biggest % Losers: Syntax-Brillian(BRLC Quote) fell 17% Wednesday, after a C.E. Unterberg, Towbin analyst said they may stop selling liquid crystal display high-definition TVs to Circuit City. John Vinh, the analyst, said Polaroid may increase shipments of its LCD TVs to Circuit City because Syntax-Brillian may have "de-committed." The Tempe, Ariz.-based company dropped 90 cents, closing at $4.56.

Rising on Unusual Volume: Rental car service, Hertz Global(HTZ Quote) saw shares gain 8.6% in heavy trading. Shares gained $1.92 on volume 1,734% above normal, closing at $24.37.

Stocks with Unusual Option Activity: Delta Air Lines(DAL Quote) was experiencing unusual options activity. Shares rose 24 cents, or 1.3%, to $18.64 Wednesday, as rival United Airlines'(UAUA Quote) CFO said the airline was interested in exploring a merger. Delta has long been rumored a possible partner.

Latest Activist Situations: A Securities and Exchange Commission filing indicates Atticus Capital disclosed it had upped its stake in Inverness Medical Innovations(IMA Quote) to 5.45%. On Wednesday, Inverness shares gained $1.12, or 2.3%, closing at $49.85.
