Exchange-traded funds tracking mining and metal stocks were among the day's worst performers, as gold, silver and copper futures were losing ground.
Gold futures was losing $6 to $653 an ounce. The PowerShares DB Base Metals (DBB Quote) was down 52 cents, or 2%, to $26.21. The SPDR S&P Metals & Mining (XME Quote) ETF was falling $1.01, or 1.6%, to $62. The Market Vectors Gold Miners (GDX Quote) fell 46 cents, or 1.2%, to $37.77. The Market Vectors Steel (SLX Quote) was lower by 80 cents, or 1.2%, to $64.28. The iShares Silver Trust (SLV Quote) was down 92 cents, or 0.8%, to $130.62. Energy-related ETFs were also among the losers Tuesday, as the front-month July contract was down 63 cents to $65.34 a barrel. The SPDR S&P Oil & Gas Equipment & Services (XES Quote) ETF was shedding 49 cents, or 1.4%, to $35.65. The PowerShares Dynamic Oil & Gas Services (PXJ Quote) was lower by 31 cents, or 1.2%, to $24.67. The iShares Dow Jones U.S. Oil Equipment Index (IEZ Quote) ETF was recently down 62 cents, or 1.1%, to $55.38. Bundled securities tracking semiconductors were also among the biggest decliners. Following Monday's close, Texas Instruments (TXN Quote) slipped 2.2% after the chipmaker tightened its earnings forecast and lowered its revenue expectations a bit. The Ultra Semiconductor ProShares (USD Quote) ETF was shedding $1.10, or 1.4%, at $76.34. The SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD Quote) ETF eased 29 cents, or 0.6% to $51.61. The Semiconductor HOLDRs (SMH Quote) ETF was recently down 13 cents, or 0.1%, to $36.46. The PowerShares Dynamic Semiconductors (PSI Quote) ETF was lower by 7 cents, or 0.4%, at $18.96. The HealthShares Emerging Cancer (HHJ Quote) ETF was also losing ground, thanks to a nearly 3% slide in shares of Dendreon (DNDN Quote). The HealthShares Emerging Cancer ETF was recently down 46 cents, or 2%, to $22.89. On the other hand, the iShares Dow Jones U.S. Broker-Dealers (IAI Quote) ETF was one of very few winners of Tuesday's session. Before the opening bell, Lehman Brothers (LEH Quote) posted a second-quarter profit that jumped 27% from a year ago and topped the Thomson First Call forecast.
