52-Week Highs: After takeover rumors surfaced on Friday, U.S. Steel(X) soared to a 52-week high. The steel producer ended the session up 8%, or $9.25, at $125.05.

Biggest % Gainers: Limelight Networks(LLNW), which provides network services to media companies, rocketed 48% Friday after the company's initial public offering. Shares of the Tempe, Ariz., company traded far beyond expectations, climbing $7.18 to $22.18.

52-Week Lows: Shares of Volt Information Sciences(VOL) hit a 52-week low after the telecommunications staffing company reported earnings that missed Wall Street's estimates late Thursday. The stock closed Friday's sessin down 16 cents, or 0.8%, at $21.25.

Biggest % Losers: Houston's oil and gas company Endeavor International(END) bucked Friday's broad market rally, plunging 19%. After the company reported shutting down its Balgownie exploratory well in the North Sea, shares dropped 39 cents to $1.67. On the news, JPMorgan lowered its rating to underweight from overweight, citing the failed well and a lack of many other drilling opportunities.

Rising on Unusual Volume: Vail Resorts(MTN) added 2.3% on heavy trading. Average volume increased 258% on Friday, after reports indicated third-quarter earnings jumped 15%. The Colorado-based ski resort operator closed at $60.17, adding $1.35 for the day.

Stocks With Unusual Option Activity: Take-Two Interactive(TTWO) was experiencing unusual option activity Friday. Shares gained 8 cents, or 0.4%, to $18.65.

Latest Activist Situations: Sun Capital's SCSF Equities disclosed an 8% stake in apparel maker Kellwood(KWD).
