Biggest % Gainers: Shares of San Francisco-based Novacea(NOVC Quote) shot up $6.94, or 86%, to close at $15 after the company agreed to a deal with fellow drugmaker Schering-Plough(SGP Quote). The $440 million agreement will give Novacea the rights to develop prostate cancer drug Asentar.

52-Week Highs: In addition to posting the largest percentage gain, Novacea's closing price was a 52-week high.

Biggest % Losers: Solarfun Power(SOLF Quote) dropped 23% to $9.60, after the Chinese maker of solar cells reported a first-quarter loss and cut its 2007 revenue prediction, blaming current operating conditions.

Rising on Unusual Volume. Shares of Southern Union(SUG Quote), a natural gas company, gained 5.5% to $35.05 in heavy trading. More than 2.8 million shares changed hands, almost five times the stock's average volume.

52-Week Lows: JDS Uniphase(JDSU Quote), which makes communications test and measurement equipment for telecommunications, cable and networking companies, closed at a 52-week low of $12.64, 50% of its 52-week high of $25.36. The company announced late Tuesday that it had acquired Picolight, a maker of optical pluggable transceivers, for a combination of cash and stock.
