Tuesday's Small-Cap Winners & Losers

A spate of merger news and rumors were moving small-cap stocks in various sectors Tuesday.

CT Communications(CTCI Quote) soared more than 45% on news it will be acquired by fellow telecommunications company Windstream(WIN Quote) for $31.50 a share in cash.

Including the assumption of cash and debt, the deal is valued around $585 million. CT Communications was recently trading up 9.8% at $34.42, while Windstream was recently down 2 cents, or 0.1%, at $14.90.

Also on an upward trajectory was InfoSpace(INSP Quote) after the Internet company was featured in a Spanish newspaper report as the subject of a possible buyout by LaNetro Zed, a privately held mobile company based in Spain. Shares of Bellevue, Wash.-based InfoSpace recently were climbing $2.85, or 13.8%, to $23.44.

Bradley Pharmaceuticals (BDY Quote) surged 25% on news its CEO and founder, Daniel Glassman, has offered an all-cash bid of $21.50 to take the Fairfield, N.J. company private. The stock was up $4.56 at $23.

Peru Copper(CUP Quote), meanwhile, slid some 20% after the Canada-based miner said it failed to reach an agreement in talks about a possible sale of all or part of the company. The company said it will continue to work with its financial adviser on its alternatives. Peru Copper was down $1.29 at $5.15.

TAT Technologies(TATTF Quote) soared 30% after the aircraft-equipment maker reported a rise in first-quarter profit. The company posted earnings of $2.6 million, or 44 cents a share, up from $1.3 million, or 21 cents a share, in the prior-year period. Revenue rose to $25 million from $16.4 million. Shares were up $4.90 to $21.52.

The Russell 2000 and the S&P SmallCap 600, each up about 0.6%, were both tracking the major indices higher.
