The Fund Manager Shuffle

It's always important to keep a close watch on the fundamentals and performance of any of your mutual funds. But it's also important to know about the wizard behind the curtain pulling on the strings and running your investment.

That's why we're monitoring the manager changes going on at the mutual funds we track. Below is a list of the changes that took place during April.

Fidelity

Fidelity began a busy April of managerial changes by naming Robert Rowland portfolio manager of (FJPNX Quote - Cramer on FJPNX - Stock Picks)Fidelity Japan fund (FJPNX), replacing Yoko Ishibashi. Rowland started at Fidelity in 1995 as an equity research analyst based in Tokyo, concentrating on the semiconductor, precision equipment and automobile sectors.

It also named Duffy Fischer to succeed Jody J. Simes as portfolio manager of (FSDPX Quote - Cramer on FSDPX - Stock Picks)Fidelity Select Materials (FSDPX) fund and (FMFAX Quote - Cramer on FMFAX - Stock Picks)Fidelity Advisor Materials fund (FMFAX). Simes left to become a portfolio manager at Pyramis Global Advisors. Fischer began working at Fidelity in 2006 as an analyst focused on commodity and diversified chemical companies. He previously worked at Goldman Sachs.

John M. Harris succeeds Martin Zinny as portfolio manager of the (FSCPX Quote - Cramer on FSCPX - Stock Picks)Fidelity Select Consumer Discretionary fund (FSCPX). Harris started at Fidelity last year, arriving from Morgan Stanley as an equity research analyst focused on the retail sector.

Fidelity also named Evan Hornbuckle as portfolio manager of its (FSRPX Quote - Cramer on FSRPX - Stock Picks)Select Retailing Portfolio fund (FSRPX), succeeding Zinny. Hornbuckle began as a summer intern at Fidelity in 2004, joining the firm full-time in 2005 as an equity research analyst specializing in the media industry.
