Thursday's ETF Winners & Losers

Bundled securities tracking crude oil were among few winners of a losing session Thursday, as the front-month June contract was adding 63 cents to $62.18 a barrel.

The iPath Goldman Sachs Crude Oil Index (OIL Quote) exchange-traded fund tacked on 23 cents, or 0.7%, to $35.33. The United States Oil (USO Quote) ETF was up 20 cents, or 0.4%, to $48.21. The ProShares DB Oil (DBO Quote) was edging higher by 14 cents, or 0.5%, at $25.89.

Most other ETFs were falling hard. Among the worst decliners was the HealthShares Emerging Cancer (HHJ Quote) ETF. Holding Dendreon (DNDN Quote), which plummeted 64% Wednesday after the Food and Drug Administration said it required more test data for the company's Provenge drug, was lower by another 12%. The ETF was recently down 84 cents, or 3.6%, to $22.35.

ETFs tracking the chip sector were also declining. Among individual semiconductor names, Altera (ALTR Quote) was losing 2.7%, Applied Materials (AMAT Quote) slumped 2.3%, KLA-Tencor (KLAC Quote) was falling 2.3%, and Texas Instruments (TXN Quote) was lower by nearly 1%.

The Ultra Semiconductor ProShares (USD Quote) ETF was recently down $2.42, or 2.9%, to $81.31. The PowerShares Dynamic Semiconductors (PSI Quote) ETF was shedding 43 cents, or 2.2%, to $19.33. The iShares Goldman Sachs Semiconductor (IGW Quote) ETF was off $1.13, or 1.7%, at $65.28. The Semiconductor HOLDRs (SMH Quote) ETF was lower by 52 cents, or 1.4%, to $37.58.

Housing-related ETFs were also among the biggest losers. Among housing concerns, Beazer Homes (BZH Quote) dropped 2.9%, Toll Brothers (TOL Quote) eased 2.7%, Pulte Homes (PHM Quote) slumped 2.4%, and D.R. Horton (DHI Quote) was losing 2.3%.

The iShares Dow Jones U.S. Home Construction(ITB Quote) ETF was recently falling by 86 cents, or 2.4%, at $35.62. The SPDR Homebuilders (XHB Quote) ETF was down 80 cents, or 2.3%, to $33.90.
