Thursday's Winners & Losers: Neenah Paper

Neenah Paper(NP Quote - Cramer on NP - Stock Picks) was among the NYSE's winners Thursday, as shares rose 7% after the paper manufacturer posted first-quarter results that blew past Wall Street's forecast.
The company earned $15.2 million, or $1.01 a share, on revenue of $224.7 million. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected earnings of 78 cents a share on revenue of $208 million. During the year-earlier quarter, the company earned $3.4 million, or 23 cents a share, on revenue of $132.9 million. "The benefits of the strategic changes we have made over the past year are evident with our increased scale and more profitable and diversified businesses," the company said. Shares were trading up $2.70 to $41.09. Despite cutting first-quarter guidance, Stage Stores(SSI Quote - Cramer on SSI - Stock Picks) ticked up less than 1% on Thursday. The company now expects earnings of 19 cents to 20 cents a share. Previously, the company forecast earnings of 31 cents to 35 cents a share. Analysts project earnings of 29 cents a share. The company posted revenue of $358.2 million. Analysts expected revenue of $374.4 million. "Our operating results for the first quarter were impacted by unseasonably cool weather patterns, which resulted in lower-than-projected sales, and an unfavorable merchandise mix, which produced lower-than-anticipated gross margins," the company said. Shares were trading up 16 cents, or 0.7% to $20.93. Shares of Interpublic(IPG Quote - Cramer on IPG - Stock Picks) fell 7.2% after the advertising and marketing services company posted a disappointing first-quarter loss. The company reported a loss of $132.8 million, or 29 cents a share, on revenue of $1.36 billion. Analysts expected a smaller loss of 17 cents a share on revenue of $1.36 billion.
