Vonage (VG Quote - Cramer on VG - Stock Picks) says it is seeking to have Verizon's (VZ Quote - Cramer on VZ - Stock Picks) patent litigation case thrown out.
The Holmdel, N.J., Net-calling shop asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., to vacate a decision by the U.S. District Courts that found Vonage had infringed on some of Verizon's calling technology. The move comes a day after the Supreme Court undercut a legal standard that could make so-called obvious inventions invalid. "We are very encouraged by the Supreme Court's decision and the giant step it represents towards achieving much-needed patent reform in this country," Vonage chief Jeffrey Citron said in a press release. "The Supreme Court's decision should have positive implications for Vonage and our pending patent litigation with Verizon," Citron continued. Vonage shares closed up 7 cents at $3.14 and were unchanged in after-hours trading Tuesday.
