But this week has been relatively quiet in sports, perhaps more than usual because the NCAA tournament is devoid of a true Cinderella at this point. The lowest remaining seed, UNLV, a no. 7 seed, has a distinguished pedigree, with national titles in their recent past, and their presence in the Sweet Sixteen is far from a shock.
By and large the 16 teams remaining in March Madness were expected to be there. Undeniably, for many, the lack of a Cinderella may temper enthusiasm to follow the tournament in the usual maniacal fashion. Nonetheless, devotees of the power conferences, championed by Billy Packer, are pounding their chests and extruding their jaws with pride, as the rest of us bemoan the make up of the Sweet Sixteen. Interestingly, the phenomenon that is March Madness has spawned a new science, Bracketology, manned by fledgling scientists, who call themselves Bracketologists. With their special expertise, they have been able to break the encryption and have determined that the mid-majors played each other in most of the games. Thereby greatly reducing the possibility of a Cinderella surviving. Despite their apparent cynicism, the Bracketologists have unknowingly coupled genealogy with Bracketology, in that generations of the same families have become enthralled with filling out the brackets and competing against each other. It is not unusual to see fathers, sons and grandfathers, as well as mothers, daughters and grandmothers comparing results of their picks. Furthermore, families are congregating to watch the games together, spurned on by the friendly competition the brackets generate. The Players Club recognizes that events that bring families together are extremely important in keeping families intact, and sports unites families. With guaranteed recurring cash flow from The Players Club, athletes can enjoy the riches of life on other playing fields. Sometimes, creating the situation whereby Grandpa gets the big hit in the family softball game, can be the biggest hit of all for you! Life is a journey; Enjoy the ride.TheStreet Premium Services
