Monday's Financial Winners & Losers
ABN Amro (ABN Quote) rose sharply on word the Dutch bank has been approached by Britain-based Barclay's regarding possible merger discussions. Shares were up $3.58, or 9.9%, to $39.82.
Ladenburg Thalmann (LTS Quote) jumped after the Miami-based broker swung to a fourth-quarter profit of $4.7 million, or 3 cents a share, from a loss of 24 cents a share a year ago. Shares were gaining 29 cents, or 11.4%, to $2.84. Shore Bancshares (SHBI Quote) gained after an analyst at BB&T Capital Markets upped the Easton, Md., bank's rating to buy from hold. Shares were up $1.70, or 7%, to $25.91. Commerce Bancorp (CBH Quote) slipped after the Cherry Hill, N.J., regional bank revealed a complaint had been filed against Chief Executive Vernon Hill in New Jersey's U.S. District Court alleging "breaches of fiduciary duty, waste of corporate assets and unjust enrichment arising from certain related-party transactions."
