Asia's Markets Climb

 

Stocks in Asia were almost uniformly higher overnight Monday, but the gains failed to carry through to Europe's trading sessions.

Tokyo's Nikkei 225 was up 0.8% at 17,292, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 1.6% to 19,442. Mainland China's Shanghai and Shenzhen 300 Index was ahead by 0.2% at 2616, and Taiwan's Taiex climbed 0.8% to 7629.

South Korea's Kospi was stronger by 1.3%, and Singapore's Straits Times Index gained 1.2%. India's BSE Sensex edged up 0.1%.

Meanwhile, Europe was mostly weaker. London's FTSE 100 gave back 0.2% to 6233, and the Paris Cac 40 was off 0.8% at 5496. Frankfurt's Xetra DAX was unchanged.

The Swiss Market Index lost 0.4% at 8899, and Milan's MIB 30 shed 0.5% to 40,634.

In Latin America, Mexico's Bolsa rose 0.4% to 27,213, and Brazil's Bovespa was better by 0.2% at 44,230.
