Friday's ETF Winners & Losers

Semiconductor-related exchange-traded funds were among the best performers of Friday's session. Earlier, Stifel Nicolaus upgraded Texas Instruments (TXN) to buy from hold, saying the chipmaker's overstock inventory has been reduced.

The SPDR Semiconductor (XSD) ETF was adding 1% to $50.66. The Semiconductors HOLDRs (SMH) ETF was higher by 0.9% to $34.34. The iShares Goldman Sachs Semiconductor (IGW) was up 0.1% to $61.40.

The PowerShares Lux Nanotech (PXN) ETF was also higher. Holding Arrowhead Research (ARWR) was rising 2.7%. The ETF was higher by 8 cents, or 0.5%, to $17.07.

On the other hand, bundled securities following the energy sector were among the worst performers. The front-month April contract was recently falling by $1.64 to $60 a barrel. The iPath Goldman Sachs Crude Oil (OIL) ETF was recently shedding 1.9% to $36.85. The United States Oil (USO) ETF was giving back 1.9% to $50.31.

The Internet HOLDRs (HHH) ETF was hurt by Yahoo! (YHOO). The Internet giant slumped 5% after The Wall Street Journal reported it may scale back its partnership with AT&T (T). The ETF was falling 87 cents, or 1.6%, to $53.44.
