New York Stock Exchange (NYX Quote) retreated after launching its long-awaited $14 billion bid for the Euronext exchange, having finally cleared the U.S. regulatory hurdles to that end. The offer will run from Feb. 15 through March 21. Shares eased by $3.03, or 3.4%, to close at $86.52.

FTI Consulting (FCN Quote) surged after the corporate consulting firm reported per-share fourth-quarter earnings of 42 cents, handily beating the 37-cent per-share consensus, according to Thomson Financial. The Baltimore-based company closed up $4.10, or 14.1%, at $33.11.

Navigators Group (NAVG Quote) said fourth-quarter profits surged to $20.6 million, or $1.22 a share, including a penny-a-share capital loss, on $150.3 million in revenue. Analysts were looking for $1.08 a share on sales of $140.3 million. The New York-based insurer closed up $4.76, or 10%, at $51.99.

Ladenburg Thalmann (LTS Quote) was jumping a day after the Miami-based broker announced it will convert its remaining $5 million in debt, held by real estate company New Valley, into $1.80-a-share company stock. Shares were up 36 cents, or 14.8%, at $2.80.

Credit Suisse (CS Quote) was higher after the bank said 2006 income surged 94% from the prior year to about $9.18 billion, including roughly $1.47 billion from the sale of its Winterthur insurance unit. The bank also announced the retirement of Chief Executive Oswald Grubel, who will be replaced by Brady Dougan, chief executive of Credit Suisse's investment banking division. Shares climbed $2.44, or 3.4%, to close at $74.47.
