Winners & Losers
Shares of Syntax-Brillian(BRLC) were among technology's losers Thursday, slumping 15% after the maker of high-definition televisions posted better-than-expected second-quarter results but issued a disappointing revenue outlook for the third quarter and full year.
For the period ended Dec. 31, the company earned $14.8 million, or 25 cents a share, on revenue of $242.5 million. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call expected earnings of 24 cents a share on revenue of $241.8 million. During the year-earlier period, the company reported a loss of $1.3 million, or 4 cents a share, on revenue of $60.2 million. Looking ahead, Syntax-Brillian sees third-quarter revenue of $160 million to $170 million and full-year revenue of $650 million to $700 million. Analysts project third-quarter revenue of $187.6 million and full-year revenue of $710.8 million. Shares were trading down $1.42 to $7.95. SpectraLink(SLNK) jumped 32% after the wireless-telephony company agreed to be acquired by Polycom(PLCM) for about $220 million, or $11.75 a share in cash. The buyout price represents a 33% premium to Wednesday's closing price of $8.81. Excluding items, Polycom expects the acquisition to be slightly accretive to earnings in 2007. The deal is scheduled to close during the second quarter. Shares of SpectraLink were trading up $2.84 to $11.65 while shares of Polycom were trading down 38 cents to $34.46.TheStreet Premium Services
