How to Charm Your Valentine
| Charmed, I'm Sure | ||
Wonder how you can reveal your true passions this Valentine's Day without ever saying a word?
Express yourself with charms.
If jewelry is one way of making a personal statement, then charms worn around the wrist or neck can really tell your story.
An airplane depicts a life of travel and adventure; a three-tiered wedding cake signals a bride's impending nuptials. Spell a name in charm-sized letters, wear a four-leaf clover for good luck, or celebrate a bundle of joy with a tiny rocking horse. Whether buying for yourself or a loved one, browsing through a jeweler's collection of charms and pendants feels like a mini-treasure hunt -- there's a stunning assortment of new and vintage trinkets suitable for all the people in your life. Charms can honor personal milestones, professions, religious leanings, hobbies and objects of affection. Even the symbols of luxury brands have become big sellers. Charms, pendants and amulets have been around for centuries, drifting in and out of style but never completely disappearing from jewelers' cases. Tiffany and Co. (TIF Quote), Links of London, David Yurman and Louis Vuitton are among the luxury retailers that currently offer selections of these tiny masterpieces. Especially during Valentine's Day, charms can provide your loved ones a uniquely personal and valuable way of expressing who they are, what they've achieved and what they cherish most.
Top-Tier Tiffany
From its new collection of silver lock charms (starting at $100 each), to its platinum and diamond Stars charm bracelet ($5,200), Tiffany and Co. is the standard bearer for quality charms and pendants, and the bracelets and necklaces that house them. Tiffany's has recently introduced its new line of sterling silver "lock charms." These functioning locks click on to a necklace, bracelet, handbag or other accessory, and allow you to be as creative as you want to be. Designs include individual letters or numbers to write your personal message, as well as heart and round locks ready for engraving. Tiffany's selection of 18K gold and platinum charms can truly make it a Valentine's Day to remember, and also allow buyers to indulge their more whimsical sides. Some of these stunning pieces are embellished with diamonds and tiny gemstones, and have moving parts. Among a myriad of choices is a champagne bucket with ice crafted from that other "ice," ($925), a rocking horse wearing a diamond saddle ($1,850), a suitcase that opens, with diamonds and blue and pink sapphires on its surface ($1,100), a camera with a rotating lens encrusted with diamonds ($1,400), and a taxi with moving wheels ($1,400). Charms can also reflect the refined elegance of their creators. The signature "Return to Tiffany's" heart is a familiar sight on the necks and wrists of well dressed women, and Tiffany icons including its Bow Box and Atlas Cube are available in 18K gold and as sterling silver lock charms.Personalized Touches
Perhaps the next best thing to carrying a Louis Vuitton bag is wearing one on your wrist. This luxury fashion and leather goods brand offers a line of exclusive charms, including miniature replicas of several of its most beloved bags. The 18K gold and pink opal Keepall charm mimics the LV original down to its dangling luggage tag ($3,550), and the Papillon is made of 18K gold and pink opal ($2,890). Also available is a line of 18K white gold monogram charms, as well as objects including the white gold Avion airplane charm with diamond windows and LV etched on its tail ($3,150).
