Thursday's Early Winners & Losers

Shares of NxStage Medical (NXTM Quote) were red-hot in extended trading Wednesday after the company struck a multiyear collaboration deal with DaVita(DVA Quote), a dialysis-services company. Under this agreement, DaVita said it purchased $20 million worth of NxStage shares at $10 a share, giving it a 7% stake.

In addition, DaVita paid about $5 million for all of NxStage's current equipment relating to its System One portable kidney-dialysis machine, and will buy the equipment for most of NxStage's future home-hemodialysis products. Lawrence, Mass.-based NxStage was bouncing $3.05, or 35.9%, to $11.55 in recent after-hours trading. Shares of DaVita were unchanged.

Spectralink (SLNK Quote) surged by nearly a third as the company, which makes wireless telephone systems for the workplace, agreed to sell itself to communications-equipment maker Polycom (PLCM Quote) for $220 million, or $11.75 a share. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter.

Although Spectralink also posted fourth-quarter earnings of $3 million, or 15 cents a share, excluding items -- about a third less than last year and 3 cents short of Thomson Financial's analyst estimates -- the Boulder, Colo., company was gaining $2.75, or 31.2%, to $11.56. Polycom was up 9 cents to $34.93.

TeleTech (TTEC Quote) revenue rose 10.7% from a year ago to $336.7 million, its highest-ever quarterly top line. Fourth-quarter profits totaled $18.2 million, or 25 cents a share, excluding items, compared with $7.4 million, or a dime a share, a year ago. Analysts were looking for 21 cents a share on sales of $331 million. The Englewood, Colo.-based staffing-services company was adding $2.65, or 9.8%, to $29.65.
