Energy shares were taking a cue from plunging crude prices, with the Amex Oil, the Philadelphia Oil Service and the Amex Natural Gas Indices down by as much as 4.2%. Among drillers and refiners, Marathon Oil(MRO Quote), ConocoPhillips(COP Quote), Hess(HES Quote) and Occidental Petroleum(OXY Quote) were losing the most ground, down 3.1% to 4.4% each.
Oil-service firms Weatherford International(WFT Quote), Rowan Companies(RDC Quote) and Nabors Industries(NBR Quote) were posting the largest losses, at about 6% each. Natural gas drillers Southwestern Energy(SWN Quote), XTO Energy(XTO Quote) and Devon Energy(DVN Quote) were shedding more than 3% each.- Loading Comments...
