Thursday's ETF Winners & Losers

The B2B Internet HOLDRs (BHH Quote) exchange-traded fund was Thursday's best performer as Internet Capital Group (ICGE Quote) was gaining 1.8%. The ETF was up 3 cents, or 1.4%, to $2.18.

ETFs tracking the telecom sector were also higher after AT&T (T Quote) announced that it will extend its contract with satellite-television provider DirecTV (DTV Quote). Through the deal, AT&T will provide voice-over-Internet protocol and other services to DirecTV's call centers. Shares of AT&T were gaining 1.3%.

The Telecom HOLDRs(TTH Quote) ETF was ahead by 33 cents, or 1%, to $34.92. The iShares Dow Jones U.S. Telecom(IYZ Quote) ETF was higher by 12 cents, or 0.4%, to $29.30.

Exchange-traded funds tracking mining and basic materials were among the worst decliners. Both gold and silver futures finished with losses. Meanwhile, Commercial Metals (CMC Quote) was tumbling nearly 8% after both first-quarter earnings and second-quarter guidance came in below analysts' estimates.

The SPDR Metals & Mining (XME Quote) ETF was losing 2.5% to $48.47. The iShares Dow Jones U.S. Basic Materials (IYM Quote) ETF was recently lower by 1.6% to $58.69. The Vanguard Materials (VAW Quote) ETF was off 1.5% to $69.99.

Oil-related stocks also slumped as the February crude contract sank below the $63-a-barrel level. The iShares Dow Jones U.S. Oil Equipment Index (IEZ Quote) ETF was losing 1.6% to $45.82. The SPDR Oil & Gas Equipment & Services (XES Quote) ETF was recently down 1.5% to $29.90. The United States Oil (USO Quote) ETF was losing 1.4% to $53.30.

The Internet HOLDRs (HHH Quote) ETF was also declining. Holding eBay (EBAY Quote) was losing 2.8%. The ETF was down 70 cents, or 1.3%, to $52.84.
