Shares of Repros Therapeutics(RPRX Quote) gained 12.6% Monday after the company announced positive trial results that showed its drug Proellex is an effective pain killer for patients with endometriosis.
The trials compared Proellex to a commonly used treatment for pain caused by endometriosis, one of the most common causes of pelvic pain and infertility in women. Few drug therapies are viable for long-term use, leaving invasive laparoscopy as the most common treatment, Repros notes. Shares were up 78 cents, to $6.95.
Boston Scientific(BSX Quote) was trading slightly lower Monday after the company announced the recall of roughly 51 catheters. The company said internal inspections showed that excess resin in the devices could block blood vessels.
Obstructions caused by the faulty Mach 1 Guide catheters, which are used to direct medical devices through the body to the heart to treat coronary artery disease, could lead to stroke, heart attack or kidney problems. Shares were down 23 cents, or 1.4%, to $16.06, in recent trading.
Somaxon Pharmaceuticals'(SOMX Quote) stock gained 3.7% on positive results from trials of its drug Silenor in elderly patients with insomnia. The drug significantly improves sleep maintenance, total sleep time and sleep efficiency when compared with a placebo, the company says.
Somaxon expects to file a new drug application with the Food and Drug Administration in the third quarter of 2007. Shares were up 52 cents to $14.67.
