Tuesday's ETF Winners & Losers

Exchange-traded funds tracking the telecom sector were among the few gainers Tuesday. Among individual names, BCE (BCE Quote) was adding 4.4% after the company said it would boost its annual dividend by 11% to $1.46. The company also said it expects earnings growth in a range of 4% to 7%.

The iShares Dow Jones U.S. Telecom(IYZ Quote) ETF was higher by 17 cents, or 0.6%, to $29.34. The Telecom HOLDRs(TTH Quote) ETF was gaining 22 cents, or 0.6%, to $34.76.

Exchange-traded funds tracking mining and basic materials were among the worst decliners. Both gold and silver futures finished with losses. Meanwhile, Nucor (NUE Quote) was tumbling nearly 7% after Merrill Lynch downgraded the steel producer to neutral from buy. Nucor projected fourth-quarter earnings well below Wall Street's expectation.

The SPDR Metals & Mining (XME Quote) ETF was losing 3.3% to $51.06. The iShares Dow Jones U.S. Basic Materials (IYM Quote) ETF was recently lower by 1.4% to $59.80. The Vanguard Materials (VAW Quote) ETF was recently lower by 1.3% to $71.39.

Oil-related stocks also finished lower as crude prices gave up early gains to finish down. The United States Oil (USO Quote) ETF was losing 1.1% to $52.40. The SPDR Oil & Gas Equipment & Services (XES Quote) ETF was recently down 1% to $30.85. The iShares Dow Jones U.S. Oil & Gas Exploration Index (IEO Quote) ETF was losing 0.9% to $50.38.

The Broadband HOLDRs(BDH Quote) ETF was also one of Tuesday's losers. Holding Corning(GLW Quote) fell 3.1%, extending its recent losing streak, after UBS said that liquid crystal display volumes may fall in the first quarter.

The Broadband HOLDRs ETF was recently falling by 17 cents, or 1.1%, to $15.96.
