Aspect Up on Licensing Deal

Aspect Medical Systems(ASPM Quote) announced a multi-year licensing agreement with Mindray Medical International(MR Quote) on its patient monitoring systems.

Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics will integrate Aspect's so-called BIS technology into its systems, which are sold worldwide. BIS technology is already being used in Mindray's Beneview T8 high-end systems.

"This is an important step in strengthening our leadership position in brain monitoring and supports our commitment to expand the reach of the safety and quality benefits of BIS monitoring through alliances with leading original equipment manufacturers across the globe," said Nassib Chamoun, Aspect's president and CEO.

According to Mindray executive vice president Minghe Cheng, the need to incorporate BIS technology into patient monitors was driven by demand from customers.

Aspect's shares gained 5.3% to $19.46 while Mindray's shares fell 1.6% to $25.75.
