Shares of Hibbett Sporting Goods(HIBB) rose 9% after the sporting goods retailer's third-quarter results topped expectations. For the period ended Oct. 28, the company earned $9.9 million, or 31 cents a share, up from $8.2 million, or 24 cents a share, a year earlier. Analysts, on average, expected earnings of 28 cents a share. Revenue rose to $129.7 million from $110.6 million, beating analysts' forecast of $124.9 million.
For the fourth quarter, Hibbett sees earnings of 34 cents to 38 cents a share. Analysts forecast earnings of 34 cents a share. Shares were trading up $2.63 to $32.25. NYSE volume leaders included Hewlett-Packard(HPQ), down 92 cents to $39.21; Pfizer(PFE), up 23 cents to $26.99; Exxon Mobil(XOM), down 21 cents to $72.46; Lucent Technologies(LU), down 1 cent to $2.60; General Electric(GE), down 1 cent to $35.95; Time Warner(TWX), up 5 cents to $20.38; Motorola(MOT), down 18 cents to $22.43; and Halliburton(HAL), down 14 cents to $32.37. Nasdaq volume leaders included Sun Microsystems(SUNW), up 8 cents to $5.52; Intel(INTC), down 40 cents to $21.93; Microsoft(MSFT), down 6 cents to $29.41; Marvell Technology Group(MRVL), down 59 cents to $19.03; Cisco Systems(CSCO), down 21 cents to $26.94; Oracle(ORCL), up 22 cents to $19.32; Level 3 Communications(LVLT), down 11 cents to $5.22; Rambus(RMBS), down 15 cents to $21.57; and Sirius Satellite Radio(SIRI), down 4 cents to $4.07.TheStreet Premium Services
