Thursday's Small-Cap Winners & Losers

 

Simulations Plus (SLP) climbed following its latest fourth-quarter report, as revenue rose 44% year over year. The top line was around $1.8, up from roughly $1.2 million a year ago. The company earned $249,000, or 3 cents a share, up from $8,000 last year. The company also said sales for the first quarter will set a record. Shares were up 20% to $3.34.

Trio-Tech International (TRT) rose after revenue for the first quarter increased 73% from last year to $9.9 million. Net income was $756,000, or 23 cents a share, vs. last year's loss of $214,000, or 8 cents a share. Shares of Trio-Tech climbed 15.7% to $13.31.

eDiets.com (DIET) was on the rise after its results for the third quarter met Wall Street's estimates. Revenue from continuing operations for the quarter totaled $12.2 million, an 8% decrease from $13.2 million a year ago. Income from continuing operations for the quarter was $500,000, or 2 cents a share, down from last year's $2.2 million and 10 cents a share. Analysts were looking for a profit of 2 cents and revenue of $12.3 million. Shares were gaining 12.6% to $3.39.

eResearchTechnology (ERES) tumbled after the company offered a disappointing fourth-quarter forecast. The company expects revenue of between $18 million and $20.5 million and net income of 2 cents to 4 cents a share for the quarter. The outlook includes costs of 1 cent a share. Analysts were looking for a profit of 8 cents and sales of $25.9 million. For the third quarter, revenue was $22.2 million, up 6.2% from last year. Earnings fell to $2.5 million, or 5 cents a share, from $4 million and 8 cents a share a year ago. eResearchTechnology was losing 21% to $6.13.

Advocat (AVCA) was falling even though third-quarter revenue increased to $53.9 million from $51.4 million in the same period a year ago. Net income per common share from continuing operations was $1.39 in the most recent quarter, up from 27 cents last year. Shares were down 15% to $17.80.
