Winners & Losers

Shares of Fuel Tech(FTEK) were among the Nasdaq's winners Tuesday, jumping 21% after the company posted better-than-expected third-quarter results and increased its revenue projections. Fuel Tech, a maker of products used in utility and industrial applications, earned $2.1 million, or 9 cents a share, up from $1 million, or 5 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue rose to $20.2 million from $12.8 million. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call expected earnings of 6 cents a share on revenue of $17.5 million. For the year, Fuel Tech now expects revenue of $70 million to $74 million. Previously, it forecast revenue of $68 million to $72 million. Analysts project revenue of $71.6 million. Shares were up $4 to $23.34. Emerson(EMR) climbed 6% after the electrical products company's posted strong fourth-quarter results, increased its dividend and declared a stock split. For the period ended Sept. 30, the company earned $526 million, or $1.29 a share, on revenue of $5.52 billion. Results included a one-time gain of 5 cents a share. Analysts expected earnings of $1.20 a share on revenue of $5.25 billion. During the year-earlier quarter, the company earned $419 million, or $1.01 a share, on revenue of $4.64 billion. Looking ahead, Emerson forecast 2007 earnings growth of 12% to 15% over its 2006 earnings of $4.48 a share. The company projects revenue growth of 7% to 11%. Analysts, on average, target earnings of $5.03 a share and revenue of $21.54 billion. Emerson also said it will increase its quarterly dividend to 52.5 cents from 44.5 cents. In addition, the company has set a 2-for-1 stock split payable Dec. 11 to shareholders of record Nov. 17. Shares were up $4.72 to $87.28.TheStreet Premium Services
