Friday's Tech Winners & Losers

Shares of Netgear(NTGR Quote) were among technology's winners Friday, jumping 16% after the networking-equipment company posted better-than-expected third-quarter results and guided fourth-quarter revenue forecasts higher.

The company earned $8 million, or 23 cents a share, on revenue of $151.6 million. Excluding certain items, earnings were $11.9 million, or 35 cents a share. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call expected earnings of 32 cents a share, before items, on revenue of $140.4 million. During the year-earlier period, the company earned $8.6 million, or 25 cents a share, on revenue of $111.3 million.

For the fourth quarter, Netgear projected revenue of $153 million to $160 million, above analysts' forecast of $148.3 million. Shares were up $3.87 to $27.51.

Digital River(DRIV Quote) shares rose 11% after the Web-development services company reported higher-than-expected third-quarter results and issued solid guidance. For the third quarter, the company earned $14.8 million, or 33 cents a share, on revenue of $75.3 million. Excluding items, earnings were $18.7 million, or 41 cents a share. Analysts expected earnings of 38 a share on revenue of $74 million. During the year-earlier period, the company posted adjusted earnings of $13.2 million, or 31 cents a share, on revenue of $53.2 million.

Looking ahead, Digital River forecast adjusted fourth-quarter earnings of 46 cents a share, a penny above analysts' average forecast. The company sees revenue of $82.4 million, compared with Wall Street's target of $81.9 million. For 2007, meanwhile, the company projects adjusted earnings of $2.14 a share, with revenue of $380 million. Analysts project 2007 earnings of $2.11 a share and revenue of $364.7 million. Shares were up $5.81 to $57.92.
