Mining-related ETFs were the top performers Tuesday. The SPDR Metals and Mining(XME Quote) ETF was surging by $1.27, or 3.2%, to $40.99, and the Market Vectors Gold Miners(GDX Quote) ETF was gaining 86 cents, or 2.5%, to $35.32.
Meanwhile, the Materials Select Sector SPDR(XLB Quote) ETF was tacking on 57 cents, or 1.8% to $31.85, and the iShares Dow Jones U.S. Basic Materials(IYM Quote) ETF was recently up 91 cents, or 1.7%, to $53.40. ETFs related to housing construction were also moving higher, as the yield on the 10-year Treasury note remained below 4.60%. Among individual names, Hovnanian(HOV Quote) was rising by 4%, Centex(CTX Quote) was adding 2.3%, and Pulte Homes(PHM Quote) was higher by 1.6%. The SPDR Homebuilders(XHB Quote) ETF was higher by 73 cents, or 2.2%, to $34.36. The iShares Dow Jones U.S. Home Construction(ITB Quote) ETF was gaining 69 cents, or 1.8%, $39.08. On the flip side, the Telecom HOLDRs(TTH Quote) ETF was among the losers as major holding BellSouth(BLS Quote), which is being sold to AT&T(T Quote), slipped 1%. The Telecom HOLDRs was losing 19 cents, or 0.6%, to $33.54. In addition, the Internet Infrastructure HOLDRs(IIH Quote) ETF fell 1% as holdings BEA Systems(BEAS Quote) and NaviSite(NAVI Quote) both sank 2.6%.- Loading Comments...
