The Internet Infrastructure HOLDRs(IIH Quote) ETF was one of the best performers Friday, after holding VeriSign(VRSN Quote) was upgraded by RBC Capital Markets to outperform from sector-perform. VeriSign was trading up 5.4%, boosting the ETF by 10 cents, or 1.9%, to $5.32.
Housing and construction ETFs rose after the consumer price index showed slowing inflation, heightening odds that the Federal Reserve will leave interest rates unchanged at its meeting on Sept. 20. The SPDR Homebuilders(XHB Quote) ETF was gaining 1.7% to $33.32. The iShares Dow Jones U.S. Home Construction(ITB Quote) ETF was higher by 1.6% to $37.69. The Software HOLDRs(SWH Quote) and the iShares Goldman Sachs Software Index(IGV Quote) were also among winners, thanks to Adobe Systems'(ADBE Quote) third-quarter earnings beat, which sent shares higher 11.3%. The Software HOLDRs ETF was gaining 59 cents, or 1.6%, to $38.11, and the iShares Goldman Sachs Software Index rose 51 cents, or 1.2%, to $42.56. Meanwhile, the Telecom HOLDRs(TTH Quote) ETF was one of the losers as major holding Qwest Communications(Q Quote) fell 2.2%. The Telecom HOLDRs was down 24 cents, or 0.7%, to $32.40. Elsewhere, the iShares Dow Jones U.S. Telecom(IYZ Quote) ETF was off 0.6% to $27.41.
