New Mac Product From Skype

eBay's(EBAY Quote - Cramer on EBAY - Stock Picks) Internet communications arm Skype says it's making life a little easier for Apple(AAPL Quote - Cramer on AAPL - Stock Picks) fans, releasing Skype for Mac 2.0.

The beta version of Skype's software will allow users of Apple's Macintosh computers to place free video calls to any other Skype user on either Microsoft's(MSFT Quote - Cramer on MSFT - Stock Picks) Windows platform or through the Mac operating system.

Mac users now have the ability to connect with Windows users without having to download any additional software.

"Skype's goal is to make Internet calling streamlined and simple for everyone by providing innovative features and an intuitive design," said Stefan Oberg, director of product management for Skype. "Our community is made up of both Mac and Windows users."

eBay acquired Skype, a voice-over-Internet protocol technologies company in September 2005. Skype allows free calls between users of the service, no matter where they are in the world, as long as an Internet connection is available. Calls placed to traditional and mobile phones are able to be made at comparatively low rates.
