Tuesday's Early Winners & Losers

 

Majesco Entertainment(COOL) gained as the Edison, N.J., video-game publisher narrowed its third-quarter loss. The company posted a loss of $724,000, or 3 cents a share, compared with a loss of $37.5 million, or $1.69 a share, a year ago. Revenue increased to $12.6 million from $4.6 million. Shares added 12 cents, or 9.60%, to $1.37.

Vertex(VRTX) slipped in after-hours trading Monday when the Cambridge, Mass., biotech said it plans to sell 8 million newly issued shares. Vertex has 111 million shares outstanding. Shares were trading down 71 cents, or 2.04%, to $34.11.

Source Interlink(SORC) fell after the Bonita Springs, Fla., marketing company missed Wall Street's second-quarter earnings expectations. The company posted earnings of $4.1 million, or 8 cents a share, compared with $2.6 million, or 5 cents a share, a year ago. Excluding items, the company earned $6.3 million, or 12 cents a share. Revenue climbed 12% to $441.5 million. Analysts were looking for the company to earn 16 cents a share on $470.8 million in revenue. Shares were dropping 15 cents, or 1.49%, to $9.89.

Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies(QTWW) lost ground after the Irvine, Calif., company, which supplies parts for alternative-fuel vehicles, reported a wider first-quarter loss. The company lost $13.4 million, or 23 cents a share, compared with a loss of $8.1 million, or 15 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue totaled $42.5 million, down from $47.4 million a year ago. Analysts were looking for a loss of 18 cents a share on revenue of $42.7 million. Shares were falling 6 cents, or 2.34%, to $2.50.

Texas Instruments(TXN) slipped after the company narrowed its third-quarter guidance, keeping the midpoints of its earlier estimates intact. The chipmaker said it expects to make 44 cents to 46 cents a share for the third quarter on sales of $3.71 billion to $3.87 billion. Semiconductor revenue will range from $3.53 billion to $3.67 billion. Analysts were looking for earnings of 46 cents and sales of $3.8 billion. Shares were dropping 49 cents, or 1.54%, to $31.29.
