Monday's Small-Cap Winners & Losers
Scottish Re Group(SCT Quote) surged Monday after the Bermuda-based life insurance company said it had received acquisition proposals from a number of potential bidders. Separately, the company said it expects former executives Scott Willkomm and Seth Vance to sell Scottish Re stock at prevailing market prices as a result of their accumulation of shares and options under deferred compensation and stock option plans. Shares were recently gaining $1.27, or 13.6%, to $10.58.
Zumiez(ZUMZ Quote) rose after the Everett, Wash., apparel company was upgraded by Piper Jaffray to outperform from market-perform. Shares were recently gaining $1.56, or 7.8%, to $21.68. Hecla Mining(HL Quote) stumbled after the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho-based precious metals company said it expects to increase its silver resource base by about 30 million ounces in 2006, or about 20%. Shares of Hecla fell 53 cents, or 8.8%, to $5.50. Aurora Oil & Gas(AOG Quote) slumped after the Traverse, Mich.-based energy company was downgraded by Morgan Keegan to market-perform from outperform.
