Barr Pharmaceuticals (BRL Quote - Cramer on BRL - Stock Picks), a manufacturer of generic and proprietary pharmaceuticals, said Thursday it launched a generic version of the company's birth control pill, Seasonale, under the name Jolessa.
The launch followed the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's approval of Watson Laboratories' version of Seasonale. Watson received the approval on Sept. 5. "While issues related to our application with the patent and trademark office to reissue the patent covering Seasonale are being resolved, we will take those steps appropriate to defend our interests in this proprietary product," the Woodcliff Lake, N.J.-based company said. The shares were trading down 44 cents, or 0.82%, at $53.09 Friday.
