Monday's Tech Winners & Losers

 

Shares of InterVideo(IVII) were among technology's winners Monday, surging 32% after the DVD software company agreed to be acquired by Corel(CREL) for $13 a share in cash, or $196 million.

"We are pleased to announce Corel's latest acquisition as a public company as we continue to execute our strategy to grow both organically and through the acquisition of complementary businesses that leverage our capabilities and scale in the packaged software market," Corel said. The deal is expected to close during the fourth quarter, and Corel expects the acquisition will be accretive to earnings during the second quarter after closing. Shares of InterVideo were trading up $3.05 to $12.65, while shares of Corel rose 12 cents to $10.

Avanex(AVNX) shares jumped 14% after the optic-communications gearmaker gave a fourth-quarter revenue preview that topped expectations. For the period ended June 30, the company estimates revenue of $45.5 million. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call had forecast revenue of $43.6 million. For the first quarter, the company predicts revenue of $48 million to $50 million, above the $45.8 million that analysts project. Avanex plans to release its full fourth-quarter results on Sept. 5. Shares were trading up 23 cents to $1.87.

Rackable Systems (RACK) shares climbed 9% after WR Hambrecht initiated coverage of the server and storage company with a buy rating. WR Hambrecht said Rackable has the potential for upside on both the top and bottom line because of several unannounced contract signings the firm believes the company has signed. The analyst put a $36 price target on the stock. Shares recently changed hands at $26.73, up $2.18.
