Friday's Early Winners & Losers
Ansoft (ANST) had first-quarter earnings of $2.3 million, or 9 cents a share, up from $1.2 million, or 5 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue totaled $17.3 million, up 17% from a year ago. Analysts were looking for earnings of 8 cents on revenue of $16.8 million. The company forecast second-quarter revenue growth of around 10% to 15%. Shares gained $1.30, or 6.4%, to $21.57 in early trading.
J. Crew Group (JCG) reported a wider second-quarter loss. The company lost $2.8 million, or 8 cents a share, for the quarter, compared with a loss of $1.6 million, or 7 cents a share, last year. J. Crew forecast long-term, annual same-store sales growth in the mid-single digits and direct-to-consumer sales growth in the high-single digits. The company projects EPS growth in excess of 20%. Shares of J. Crew rose 85 cents, or 3.2%, to $27.55.
Isle of Capri Casinos (ISLE), the casino operator, missed first-quarter profit expectations. The company reported income of $9.2 million, or 29 cents a share, and revenue of $274 million. Analysts were calling for earnings of 37 cents on revenue of $294.4 million. Shares were trading down $1.03, or 4.7%, to $20.91 after the close Thursday.
Benihana (BNHNA) stumbled after the restaurant chain missed first-quarter earnings expectations. However, the company predicted second-quarter earnings of 26 cents to 28 cents a share, against analysts' estimates of 23 cents. Also, the company named Jose Ortega as chief financial officer, effective Sept. 1. Shares fell 69 cents, or 2.8%, to $24.03 after the close.Other early movers included Hoku Scientific (HOKU), up 21% to $4.16, Supergen (SUPG), higher by 11.6% to $3.74, Bally Total Fitness (BFT), gaining 7.1% to $2.55, Blue Dolphin (BDCO), up 5.2% to $5.10 and Rambus (RMBS), rising 2.4% to $14.26.
Declining stocks included Corcept Therapeutics (CORT), sinking 70% to $1.06, SanPaolo IMI (IMI), off 49% to $20.57, H&R Block (HRB), dropping 9.9% to $20.53, Finish Line (FINL), down 8.3% to $9.50 and Brocade (BRCD), lower by 2.5% to $5.85.
