Shares of Mills (MLS Quote) were among the NYSE's winners Tuesday, surging 14% after the real estate investment trust announced a new financing arrangement for its Xanadu project in New Jersey's Meadowlands.
The company signed a non-binding letter of intent with Colony Capital Acquisitions and Kan Am USA under which Colony will arrange for an up to $500 million equity infusion into the joint venture. Mills, which has had a slew of financial issues and is seeking a buyer, will become a limited partner in the project after the deal and won't have any financial obligations post-closing. Shares recently were up $2.28 to $19. Shares of Harris Interactive(HPOL Quote) rose 3% after the market research and polling company posted fourth-quarter earnings that topped forecasts by a penny a share. For the period ended June 30, the company earned $3.3 million, or 5 cents a share, on revenue of $60 million. Analysts expected earnings of 4 cents a share and revenue of $57.8 million. During the year-earlier quarter, the company earned $1.2 million, or 2 cents a share, on revenue of $54.2 million. For fiscal 2007, Harris sees earnings of 22 cents to 24 cents a share and revenue of $230 million to $240 million. Analysts project earnings of 22 cents a share on revenue of $230.6 million.
