Delta Apparel Makes Purchase

 

Delta Apparel (DLA) was higher after the company set plans for an acquisition and said its fourth-quarter sales rose 24.4% from a year ago.

The Duluth, Ga., company earned $6.3 million, or 73 cents a share, in the fourth quarter, up from $3.2 million, or 37 cents a share, last year. Sales totaled $82.4 million.

Looking ahead, Delta forecast first-quarter sales of $64 million to $68 million and earnings of 41 cents to 45 cents a share. For fiscal 2007, Delta expects sales of $325 million to $340 million and earnings from $1.91 to $2.05 a share.

Separately, Delta Apparel said it agreed to acquire privately held Fun-Tees for $20 million in cash. The company says it should close the acquisition around Oct. 2. Also, the company plans to open Ceiba Textiles, an offshore textile manufacturing plant in the Green Valley Industrial Park in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

Delta's shares gained 25 cents, or 1.5%, to $16.90.
