Morgan Stanley's Anda Returns to Mother Ship

Jon Anda, a 20-year Morgan Stanley(MS) veteran who fled the mother ship earlier this year to join Joe Perella's investment bank, is returning home.

Anda will be vice chairman of institutional securities in the investment banking division of Morgan Stanley, the company said in a release Wednesday. Prior to leaving the firm in January, he was co-head of global capital markets.

"We are extremely pleased to welcome Jon back to Morgan Stanley," Zoe Cruz, Morgan's co-president, said in a release. "In his 20-year career at the firm, Jon established himself as one of the firm's top bankers. In a variety of challenging assignments across the firm, Jon proved extremely successful at attracting talent as well as fostering strong client relationships."

Morgan Stanley declined to characterize the reasons for Anda's return beyond the press release. Sources told TheStreet.com that Perella couldn't reach an agreement with Anda regarding his contract.

The explanation makes sense considering that Anda's capital markets expertise goes far beyond the focus of Perella's new firm, which is said to be specializing in advice on mergers, restructurings and IPOs, plus investment management. Perella's firm is not expected to do underwriting, sales or trading.

"I am thrilled to be back at Morgan Stanley, a firm with a great heritage, terrific talent and a bright future," Anda said in a statement.

Perella left Morgan Stanley last year in a high-profile shake-up. He later decided to open his own firm and has since lured a number of Morgan Stanley employees to his initiative. Anda's departure from Perella's team comes weeks before Perella is to launch his new firm, which sources said will open within a month.

"We are sorry that it did not work out and wish Jon well in his future endeavors," Perella said in a statement. "We look forward to working with him at whatever firm he joins."
