Cramer's 'Mad Money' Recap: Rally Recognition

Opening Up, Northgate

In a phone interview with Kenneth Stowe, the president and CEO of Northgate Minerals (NXG), Cramer asked Stowe to give a sense of what the company's recent bid for Aurizon Mines(AZK) would mean for Northgate's shareholders.

Northgate made a bid to Aurizon to fill a short-term need in production growth, Stowe said. We needed something to add to our portfolio, and Aurizon suited our needs perfectly, he said.

Cramer asked about the company's production costs, and Stowe responded that they are in the low-$200-an-ounce area.

When Cramer asked about other properties Northgate was mining, in particular copper, Stowe responded that Northgate has a very large gold and copper mine in northern British Columbia, which it acquired in 2000. It is one of the most efficient mines of its kind in the world, he said.

Can you give a sense of global demand for gold, Cramer asked. Who are your customers?

"There are a number of customers, jewelry in particular," Stowe said.

When asked if any jewelers were backing off, Stowe said that probably some people were, but since ETFs for gold had come in, they had probably countered that.
