Icahn Takes Stakes in BJ's, Lear

Billionaire investor and shareholder activist Carl Icahn reported changes in his portfolio Monday, including new positions in BJ's Wholesale Club (BJ), Federated Department Stores (FD) Lear (LEA), Cendant (CD) and Lions Gate Entertaintment (LGF).

His hedge fund, Icahn Management, disclosed the changes in its quarterly regulatory filing, which also revealed that he doubled his stake in Tyco International (TYC) and remains heavily invested in Time Warner (TWX) and Blockbuster (BBI).

Icahn has waged several much-publicized proxy battles recently at Time Warner and Blockbuster, with mixed success. His new holdings could signal that new activist campaigns are in the works. Shares of BJ's Wholesale Club, which have run up in recent months amid buyout rumors, were recently up $1.29, or 4.5%, to $30.13 after Icahn disclosed the purchase of about 2.5 million shares.

Shares of Lear, meanwhile, advanced 40 cents, or 1.5%, to $26.49. Icahn bought 2.6 million shares of the auto-parts maker.

Icahn's fund also reported new positions in Consol Energy (CNX), Gencorp (GY), Houston Exploration (THX) and Williams Cos. (WMB)

Also, the fund reported that it sold its holdings in Albertson's (ABS) and Massey Energy (MEE).
