On "Meet the Press" over the weekend, Jim Cramer called for our politicians to roll back the tariff on Brazilian ethanol.

"Now today there are reports that the tariff may be disposed of," he told viewers of his "Mad Money" TV show Thursday, which would make ethanol cheaper and help bring gas prices down.

Of course, this took down Archer Daniels Midland(ADM Quote), which he had previously recommended, because rolling back the tariff is terrible for American companies that make ethanol in the short term.

But, Cramer said that it's good for global ethanol production in the long term.

He said that seed production is a great "stealth ethanol play," and that Syngenta(SYT Quote) is the stock to buy.

Cramer recommended the company at $25 in February, and it's up to $28, but he likes it because it makes a special seed that could boost the ethanol industry.

The company's crop production business is nothing to get excited about, he said. But its genetically modified seed business is growing revenue at 45%, Cramer added.

"Not all corn is created equally," he said. Syngenta has developed the first "super corn" that makes it cheaper to turn corn into ethanol.

Cramer pointed out that the seed doesn't result in an increased ethanol yield from the corn, but it contains an enzyme that makes it easier to break down the corn, which makes it cheaper to produce ethanol.

He said that American companies that need to be more competitive will have incentive to buy Syngenta's genetically modified seeds; and European companies will stick with a Swiss-made seed because they're "protectionist."

One Way or Another

"The cable companies are in a brutal war with the phone companies ... both sides are in a fight for their very existence," Cramer said.

The television side wants to offer phone via VoIP (voice over Internet protocol), while the phone side wants to roll out video on demand over phone lines.

No matter who wins, he said, we'll be getting our TV, Internet and phone service from one side or the other.
