Shares of Serono(SRA Quote) were among the worst-performing health-related stocks Monday, slumping 10% after the Swiss biotechnology company said it's no longer for sale.

The company's controlling shareholder, the Bertarelli family, said it terminated discussions because it did not receive offers that reflected the future prospects of the company. "Moving forward, Serono will invest in its existing businesses and will actively pursue opportunities for growth through acquisitions," the company said. Shares were trading down $1.75 to $15.89.

Corautus Genetics(VEGF Quote) plummeted 67% after the company ended enrollment for its phase IIb trial of an angina treatment. "The [data monitoring committee] recommended to the company that, based on available efficacy data, enrollment should be terminated under the current protocol as the DMC saw very little chance for significant efficacy as to the primary endpoint relative to the safety risk signal it saw," the company said.

Corautus will now lock the study database and conduct unblinded endpoint analyses of VEGF-2 treatment efficacy, the company said. The study termination follows the company's decision in March to suspend enrollment of the trial because of three serious adverse events of pericardial effusion. In March, Corautus said it didn't believe the drug caused the events. Shares were trading down $2.29 to $1.11.

Celera Genomics(CRA Quote) rose modestly after the company sold several small molecule drug candidates for the treatment of cancer and other diseases to Pharmacyclics(PCYC Quote).

The deal calls for Pharmacyclics to make an upfront payment of $2 million in cash and issue between 500,000 and 1 million shares to Celera. Celera also is eligible for up to $144 million in milestone payments that are tied to the development and commercialization of products. In addition, Celera would be entitled to royalty payments in the mid- to high single digits on the basis of annual sales of drugs that are commercialized. Shares of Celera were trading up 5 cents to $11.17.
