Best of the Best

Golf Gear Heaven, Part 3

However, to pull off this look, consider being either a sublime player in order to minimize the mocking commentary you'll receive, or a truly awful one, so that others will figure you're consciously going for laughs.

For your feet, throw down $499 on Zappos.com for the Michael Toschi Golf G3 with either a black Oxford-style upper or a black-and-white upper. Thinking about staying with the $49 FootJoys? Sure, they're comfortable, but do they have smart, bright red soles like the G3? If you must save a few dollars, consider the Ecco World Class GTX for $404.

You'll generally pay $15 to $20 for a nice glove, but for a few more greenbacks perhaps give the Bionic Glove a try.

Read the product literature, and it turns out the reason you can't break 120 might not be because you aren't very good. According to the Bionic Glove's makers (the same folks who make Louisville Slugger bats), "the anatomical nature of the hand causes a variety of problems that interfere with performance." This glove says it can remedy that, and the good news is you won't need corrective surgery on your hands after all.

An important note for rules sticklers -- the Bionic Glove is sanctioned by the U.S. Golf Association only for players who have arthritis in their hands.

Have a Ball

The idea of golf is to get the ball into the hole in as few strokes as possible. Since you're in a good mood these days and ready to take your game up a few notches, go for the ball played by so many professionals -- Titleist's Pro V1x.

Forget all that stuff you read in other places about compression, spin and anything else arguing that this ball, at nearly $50 a dozen, is meant only for those who make a living at golf or for really good amateurs.

If you fall into one of those categories, congratulations. If not, get this ball anyway -- unless you prefer Nike's One Black or Maxfli's BlackMax, personalized, for $44.95 a dozen online. You'll feel like you're on the PGA Tour when your ball is stamped with your nickname -- Tiger, Gator or whatever it might be.

Naturally, you need something to hold all your clubs, balls, tees, markers and towels. Burton Golf sells a variety of golf bags, including a snappy leather cart bag for $475. Personalize it for a mere $15 more.

For some truly eye-catching options for women golfers, visit Ladygolf.com.

One of the more delightful offerings is the Lilly Pulitzer Limited Edition bag. This pineapple-print stunner will set you back $549 -- hurry, it's on sale.

Pimp This Ride

The best has been saved for last, so brace yourself. You're not going to be walking around the course anymore, assuming you ever did. You'll be riding. Extravagantly.

Cadillac Escalade Cart

No longer will you be forced to drive those rickety buggies like the common folk. No, pull out your platinum card and go immediately to Luxurycarts.com. You won't need another excuse to play golf after you see the little Hummers.

Quite simply, these carts might be the best thing ever made. They are styled after actual cars, including the Buick Lucerne and the Cadillac Escalade. The modified bodies are then put on a Club Car chassis.

And forget being restricted to just two riders. Luxurycarts has models that can be stretched out to accommodate four, six or even eight riders.

They're not cheap, but live a little. The Escalade starts at $18,250, but the '57 Chevy can be had for $14,750, before options are added. Stay tuned, because a Bentley cart is in the works. Beautiful.
